Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach his previous coach.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
Success also indicates he has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
